Question

why reactivity decreases down the group in halogens

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student, In case of group VII halogens, the electron gain enthalpy becomes more negative ,that is more energy will be required to remove electron as we go down the group. The anion formation becomes difficult down the group and hence the reactivity decreases down the group of halogens. Regards
