Question

Why reduction and oxidation not take place separately in separate reactions?

Open in App
Solution

Oxidation is loss of electrons and reduction is gain of electrons. A substance will gain electrons only when the other substance loses them, hence oxidation reduction always occurs together. They cannot be separated.
