Why should oils and fats not be released in the drains? Explain.

Oils and fats are insoluble in water. When released in the drain, they cause hardening and blocking of the sewage pipes. Further, on being released from the drains into the soil, fats and oils block the soil pores. Soil pores are important for filtering water that seeps through the soil.
