Why should the use of resources be sustainable ?

The use of resources should be sustainable because:
No such alternative is yet explored that can be used if these resources get exhausted as they are present in a limited quantity.
They have to be preserved for future generation as well, because without these resources they will suffer a lot.
The progress that man has achieved in terms of development is because of these resources and if the same resources are not used sustainably the progress will come to halt.
