Question

Why size of noble gas is greater than that of halogen

Open in App
Solution

the size of the atom of an element decreases across a period due to the increase in Ionisation potential and effective nuclear charge (not nuclear charge). Now the trend continues till halogens. The noble gases have completely filled outer nd inner shells so an repulsive force acts between the electrons resulting in a larger atomic size compared to the halogens.
