Question

Why sodium metal is kept in kerosene?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Sodium is a very reactive metal.
Sodium metal is kept in kerosene to prevent it from coming in contact with oxygen and moisture (water vapours).
If it comes in contact, then it will react with the moisture present in air and form sodium hydroxide which is a highly exothermic reaction.
