Question

Why solids do not flow?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Solids have no fluidity because their particles (aka molecules/ molecules) are tightly packed and there is not much space between them.
  2. In contrast to liquids and gases, solid particles are rigid.
  3. The molecules are, therefore, not free to move. Rather than being on the move, they merely vibrate in their positions.
  4. Thus, solids do not flow like liquids.
