Question

Why speed of sound is more in solids whose density is high beacuse as we know that speed of sound increases with decrease in density.

Solution

The elastic bulk modulus of solids is much more than that of liquids or gases than is the density of solids more than that of liquids or gases and hence taking both the factors into consideration, speed of sound is more in solids.

Note: You might not understand the concept completely at this point of time because elastic bulk modulus is a XI Standard Concept. However for the time being, you can understand that the numerator is much higher than is the denominator and hence the decrease in speed due to density is outweighed by the increse in speed due to elastic bulk modulus.
