Why the base of high buildings is made wider?

1. Pressure is defined as force per unit area. (P)$=\frac{Force\left(F\right)}{Area\left(A\right)}$
2. So, $P\propto \frac{1}{A}$ for constant force. The area of the surface and the pressure are inversely proportional. Hence the pressure is decreased as the area increases.
3. The foundation of the structure should have a larger surface so that it exerts less pressure on the ground and does not sink into it.
