Question

Why the no of base pairs different in haploid and diploid content of dnA

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Haploid content of DNA has 23 chromosomes while the diploid content of DNA has 23 pairs of chromosomes that is 46 chromosomes.
These haploid genomes which are contained in germ cells that are the egg and sperm gamete cells created in meiosis phase of sexual reproduction before fertilisation creates a zygote have three billion DNA base pairs while these diploid genomes which are found in somatic cells have six billion DNA base pairs.Hence due to the difference in number of chromosomes the number of base pairs is different in haploid and diploid content of DNA.

Thanks and regards.
