Question

why the pressure at a point in a liquid increases with increase in depth from the free surface of the liquid?

Open in App
Solution

The pressure inside the surface of liquid comes from the weight of the liquid above it. So, as we go in depth the height increases and so does the volume of water and hence the mass. As the mass increases so does the weight and hence the pressure.
