Question

Why the sun looks red in morning and orange in evening and sky looks blue

Open in App
Solution

Sunlight consists of seven colours. Of these, red has the maximum wavelength. During sunrise and sunset, the rays have to travel a larger part of the atmosphere because they are very close to the horizon.since red have maximum wavelength they become more visible and all other lights get scattered.
But at noon the light rays hit the earth perpendicular and dont refract any light.
Orange is also visible because sometimes the red also get scattered by some amount.
