Respiratory Quotient is defined as the ratio of carbon dioxide evolved and oxygen consumed for respiration. A value of 0.7 indicates that lipids are being metabolized, 0.8 for proteins, and 1.0 for carbohydrates. In humans, we mostly, use carbohydrates, proteins and fats as a respiratory substrate.
