Question

Why there are no 1p orbitals?

Open in App
Solution

  • If we talk about the first orbital 1s, it could have a maximum of 2 electrons.
  • The reason why 1p does not exists.
  • We also know that the quantum number (n) should be larger than angular momentum number.
  • To understand more let us take an example as if n=1,we only have l=0 and similarly for n=2, we could have l=0and1 (Which are s and p).
  • Thus, there are no 1p orbitals.
