Turmeric is a common household item and used as a natural indicator. Turmeric is of yellow in colour. When we dip turmeric paper into a basic solution it turns into red paper but does not change it's colour with acid. Learners can use their indicator to test household chemicals and determine which are basic. These natural indicators are used to detect the hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxyl ions (OH-) in a solution.
