Question

Why velocity ratio is greater than mechanical advantage in a simple machine?

Open in App
Solution

The mechanical advantage of a machine is always less than its velocity ratio. It is because mechanical advantage decreases due to the friction and weight of moving parts of the machine, but the velocity ratio remains constant. Similarly, if mechanical advantage had been equal to the velocity ratio of the machine then the efficiency would have been 100%, which is impossible.
