Solution

The correct option is C Due to mass linguistic agitations.
When the then Government of India rejected the demand for division of the country based on language, Potti Sreeramulu, a freedom fighter, started a hunger-strike in favour of the formation of Andhra Pradesh, a state for Telugu-speaking people. When he died, there was a mass protest to continue what he started. So, in 1953, the Government of India finally accepted the demand for the linguistic state of Andhra. Eventually, in 1956, the States Reorganisation Act was passed through which, India was divided into states on the basis of regional languages.
