Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

self-reliance means dependence on the domestically produced goods, especially food grains, this goal was accorded the highest priority during the first seven year plan. The basic idea was not to expose India's fragile economy to political pressure from rest of the world. Indeed it happened in 1965, When US threatened to stop the export of food grains to India unless the later stops the then war with Pakistan. In past imports of essential like food grains were invariably tried with political strings, because of the severe mismatch between there supply and demand across different part of the world.Accordingly developing nations like India wanted to be follow the policy of self reliance .
