In order to deal with economic crisis, the French government imposed more taxes burdening the people.Taxes were imposed to maintain the army, court, universities. Third estate comprised of peasants , landless labour and servants.They had to pay all kinds of taxes levied by the state and Church.
Taxes collected from Third estate:
Tithe – Tax payable to the Church .
Taille – Tax payable directly to the state.
Other taxes – Many indirect taxes payable to the state levied on everyday articles like salt or tobacco.
Feudal dues – Tax payable to the Nobles.
