Question

why water is not able to extinguish the fire which is set up by sodium?

Open in App
Solution

Sodium has a strong affinity for water and reacts violently with water to produce hydrogen gas. Since hydrogen is highly combustible, it will immediately catch fire. As a result, the fire will spread instead of getting extinguished.
