why we should not use milk of magnesia to neutralise the acidic soil

Milk of magnesia contains magnesium hydroxide that is easy to handle and not harmful for the stomach, is non toxic.
But soil needs more basic substances and hence calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide are used.
