Question

Why we use RL circuit?

Open in App
Solution

RL circuit:

  1. Circuit formed with the combination of an inductor and a resistor is called RL circuit.
  2. When an inductor is added in series with the resistor of the circuit, we come to observe changes in the current.
  3. The role of an inductor in the circuit is to oppose the change in the magnetic flux.
  4. It does not allow the spontaneous changes in the current.
  5. When we close the switch of the circuit, there is a gradual increase in the value of current to a maximum value.
  6. When we open the switch and remove the battery, the inductor voltage causes the current to reduce gradually to the value of zero again.

Uses of RL circuit:

  1. This circuit is used for RF amplifiers in DC power supplies, the inductor is required to allow DC current and block RF.
  2. This circuit is used as a high pass and low pass filter.
  3. This circuit is used in tube lights.
  4. This circuit is used in the filtering of low-power signals and stores energy in the form of potential energy.
