Question

Why weight is given as mass x gravity?

Open in App
Solution

Weight, Mass and Gravity.

  1. Weight- It is the force acting on object due gravity.
  2. Mass- It is total matter present in an object.
  3. Gravity- It is mutual force of attraction between two bodies having some mass.

Reason that why weight is product of mass and gravity.

  1. Weight depends on the gravitational force applied by earth. It is directly proportional to gravity.
  2. Gravitational force is directly proportional to the mass of an object
  3. So we are writing Wt.=m×g. Where m = mass of the body, and g = acceleration due to gravity(strength of gravitational field).

Final Answer: As weight is directly proportional to gravity and mass, so weight is calculated by multiplying mass of the acceleration due to gravity.
