Solution

Dear student,

The British viewed cultivation as a sign of progress, but forest lands yielded no revenue agricultural produce. Hence, they considered forest land as wasteland land.

They want to transfer these lands because of the following reason :
  • They wanted to bring forest land under cultivation so that the land to yield agricultural products and revenue.
  • The demand for commercial crops such as sugar, wheat.cotton, jute, etc increased in the 19th century Europe where foodgrains were needed to feed the growing urban population and raw materials were required for industrial production. The British wanted to seize this opportunity and cater to this growing market through forests.
