Why wood absorbs sound?

Wood conducts soubd because it is easy to move but also absorbs like a sponge blocking some sound. Because ,it is light material, neither a thick nor a denser surfaced material. Also smooth wooden structures dampen sound well. Also wood is a porous substance which also increases the absorbance of sound.
