Question

Why xerophytic plants do not have broad leaves?

Open in App
Solution

Xerophytes are plants adapted to life in a dry habitat. They have adapted themselves in these conditions by evolving thick, fleshy stems or leaves, waxy coatings on leaves, or leaves converted into spiny structures. They do not have broad leaves because they live in deserts where there is less water and in broad leaves transpiration occurs more. So, in order to prevent water loss they are reduced in size.
