Why xylems are deep seated in plant body?
Conduction of water and minerals from root to leaf
Xylem carry water and minerals from roots to leaf.
The xylem is a long‐distance transport system that is unique to higher plants. The main function of the xylem is to transport large quantities of water and solutes. This requires a continuous system of interconnected tubes with a relatively low resistance to the flow of water. In rooted plants, transport in xylem of water and minerals is essentially unidirectional, from roots to the stems. The conduction is very important and helps delivering the raw materials for food preparation in plants.
