Question

Will the bulb glow in the circuit shown in figure? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

In the given circuit, the switch is in the OFF position and thus the circuit is open. Electric switch is used to make an electric circuit open or closed for a particular appliance and hence with the help of a switch we can use an appliance accordingly. A switch simply breaks the circuit or completes it. Electric switch acts like a conductor when it is in the ON position and allows the current to flow in a circuit by completing the circuit. On the other hand, when the switch is in the OFF position, the circuit becomes open and the air gap between the switch terminals acts like an insulator and thus does not allow the current to flow. So, the bulb will not glow as no current flows through the circuit when the switch is in the OFF position.
