Question

Will the isotopes of chlorine be placed in the same group? Give reason.

Open in App
Solution

Both the chlorine isotopes have the same atomic number and the arrangement of elements in the periodic table is done on the basis of atomic number. Therefore they should be placed in one position in the periodic table. Chemical properties depend upon the atomic number of an atom, therefore, the arrangement of elements should be done on the basis of atomic number.
