Question

Will the pH of water be same at 4oC and 25oC? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

We know that
Kw=[H+][OH]
At 25oC
[H+]=[OH]=107M
pH=log10[H+]=log10[107]=7
At 4oC, ionisation of water will be less than that at 25o
at 25oC Kw=[H+][OH] will be less than 1014. Thus pH of water will be more than 7 at 4oC
