Winston Churchill and Franklin D Roosevelt signed the 'Atlantic Charter' in 1941. It stressed on the need to have an international organization, to settle disputes and maintain peace. These leaders reached out to different countries to fight against the Axis Powers. Thus, on 26 January, 1946, 26 countries signed the 'Declaration by United Nations' to fight against the Axis powers.
