Given that an object is placed at a distance x1 from the principal focus away from the mirror, on the principal axis.
u=(f+x1)

The image is formed at a distance x2 from the principal focus
u=(f+x2)
Now from mirror formula

1u+1v=1f

1(f+x1)+1(f+x2)=1f

1f+x1+1f+x2=1f

f+x2+f+x1(f+x1)(f+x2)=1f

f2+fx2+fx1+x1x2=2f2+f(x1+x2)

f2=x1x2 f=x1x2

This is Newton's mirror formula.
Why this question?
