With alcoholic potash, C4H8Cl2 (A) gives C4H6 (B), which reacts with ammoniacal cuprous chloride, Identify the compounds (A) and (B).

The reactions are given below:
H3CCH2CH2CHCl2+H3CCH2CHClCHCl2 alc. KOH−−−−−−H3CCH2CCH
[Cu(NH3)2]−−−−−−−H3CCH2CCCu

Hence, C4H8Cl2 (A)= 1,1 dichlorobutane and 1,2 dichlorobutane.
They react with alcoholic KOH to give But-1-yne (B) which then reacts with ammoniacial cuprous chloride to give red precipitate of copper butyride.
