Local government at the village level is known as Panchayati Raj. Almost every village has a Gram Panchayat, which consists of several ward members known as ‘panch’. A Sarpanch is the elected president of this council. Several Gram Panchayats come together to form a Mandal or Block Samiti. In turn, all the Block Panchayats in a district are managed by the Zilla Parishad.
