Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch the Civil Disobedience Movement by violating the salt laws. He reached the coast of Dandi on 5 April 1930 after marching a distance of 200 miles with 78 handpicked followers and on 6 April formally launched the civil Disobedience Movement by breaking the Salt Laws.
Refusal to pay land revenues, boycotting of foreign goods and liquor, organizing the bonfires of foreign clothes and resigning from government jobs by the people were some of the programmes involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement.
