With reference to the figure given above a metal container in the form of a cylinder is surmounted by hemisphere of the same radius. The internal height of the cylinder is 7 m and the internal radius is 3.5 m
(i) the total area of the internal surface excluding the base:
(ii) The internal volume of the container in m3.

Solution

(i) Total internal surface area
=2πrh+2πr2

=2×227×72×7+2×227(72×72)

=154+77

=231sq.meter

(ii) Internal volume of the container
=πr2h+23πr3

=πr2(h+23r)

=227×72×72(7+23×72)

=227×72×72283

=125×73=10783=359.33m3

Internal volume =359.33m3
