The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 Member States.
Objectives:
1. To maintain international peace and security.
2. To develop friendly relations among nations on the basis of equality and the principle of self-determination.
3. To foster worldwide cooperation in solving economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems.
Principles:
1. All Members, in order to ensure to all of them the rights and benefits resulting from membership, shall fulfill in good faith the obligations assumed by them in accordance with the present Charter.
2. All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered.
Important functions:
1. The main function of the UN today is to maintain peace and security for all of its member states.
2. It also aims to protect human rights and provide humanitarian assistance when needed.
