1) The origin of life from pre-existing life is called biogenesis. The origin of life from non-living substances is called abiogenesis.
2) There are cells which are the basic structural and functional unit of living organisms. There are no cell-like structures in non-living objects.
3) There is a level of organization in the organisms. These organisms have cells, tissues and organ level of organization. There is no level of organization in a non-living object. These are objects which have no cells, tissues and organ level of organization.
4) Living organism perform functions like nutrition, adaptation, digestion, reproduce, etc. The life processes like nutrition, adaptation, digestion, reproduction are not present in the non-living object.
