The Regulating Act 1773 provided for supreme court at Calcutta competent to try all “British subjects”. Hence statement 1 and 2 are correct. The 3rd statement is incorrect because no such veto was given to the supreme court. The fourth statement is correct.

Regulating act of 1773- was the first direct interference made by British government in the affairs of India. The purpose was to remove political power from the hands of trading company. The Act provided specific measures to set up a new administrative framework. The Act-

1. Designated Governor of Bengal as “Governor- General of Bengal” with an executive council of four members to assist him.

2. Madras and Bombay” Governor were made subordinate to Governor- General of Bengal.

3. Established Supreme Court at Calcutta in 1734 with 3 Judges and a chief Justice.

4. Prohibited servants of the company from engaging in any private trade or accepting present.
