Name the two muscles that help in breathing.

The intercostal muscles(internal and external) and the diaphragm help in a change in volume of the thoracic cavity and help in breathing. Both the diaphragm and intercostal muscles contract to allow the inhalation. During the exhalation, the external intercostal muscles contract and the diaphragm relax to allow the outward movement of gases.
