In India, at present, there are 6 Zonal Council. Originally five councils were created as per the States Reorganization Act 1956. Home Minister is the head of Zonal Council. Zonal Councils are not Constitutional bodies akin to the Interstate Council. However, since they have been established via the part III of the States Reorganization Act of 1956, they are statutory bodies.
Each zonal council consists of the following members:

1. Home minister of Central government.
2. Chief Ministers of the States in the zone.
3. Two other ministers from each state in the zone.
4. A dministrator of each union territory in the zone
