Solution
The gametogenesis is the process of formation of gametes in sexually reproducing animals. The process of formation of male gamete i.e., spermatozoa is called spermatogenesis. The process of formation of female gamete i.e., the ovum is called oogenesis.
A) Spermatogenesis: The process of spermatogenesis takes place in male gonads. The primordial cells undergo mitosis to form several spermatogonia out of which one forms primary spermatocyte. It undergoes meiosis 1 to form haploid secondary spermatocyte. The secondary spermatocyte undergoes meiosis II which is an equational to form haploid sperms. B) Oogenesis: The germ cells of the ovary undergoes mitosis and forms several oogonia. One of the oogonium forms primary oocyte which undergoes meiosis I to form secondary oocyte and a polar body. The secondary oocyte and polar undergoes meiosis II to form haploid ovum with three polar bodies.
