Magnetic field around a current-carrying wire:

The magnetic field near a current-carrying wire is given by the figure and the direction of the magnetic field is given by the right-hand thumb rule.

Right-Hand Thumb Rule:

  1. The right-hand thumb rule is used to find the direction of the magnetic field.
  2. The thumb of the right-hand points in the direction of the current, and the fingers wrap around the conductor, giving the direction of field lines.
