Solution

With the help of a labelled diagram describe the structure of a chloroplast.
  • Chloroplast is the cell organelle present in the plant cells and green algae.
  • The organelles contain a green pigment called chlorophyll which is involved in the photosynthesis of food.
  • Each chloroplast is bounded by two unit membranes which show two distinct regions that are Grana and stroma.
Grana:
  • Grana are stacks of membranous flattened discoid sacs called thylakoids which contain the molecules of chlorophyll.
Stroma:
  • Stroma is the homogeneous matrix in which grana are embedded.
