Solution

Electric bell:

An electric bell is a device in which to and fro movement of a smaller hammer on a gong produces the sound of a bell.

Diagram:

Construction of electric bell:

  1. Electromagnet: A copper wire is wound around an iron piece that acts as a magnet when current flows through it.
  2. Striker: Striker (hammer) will hit the gong and will be in touch with a contact screw through an iron strip.
  3. Gong: A metal gong to produce sound.
  4. Key: A key or a switch is used for on and off.
  5. Battery: Battery works as a power source.

Working of an electric bell:

  1. An electric bell works on the principle of the magnetic effect of current.
  2. The electric bell is a simple circuit that triggers a sound on the completion of the circuit by pressing the button.
  3. When electricity passes through the electromagnet, the striker gets attracted towards the electromagnet and hit the bell.
  4. The circuit will break when the striker hit the bell, the striker returns to its original position then the circuit again connects.
  5. This process continues to ring the bell.
  6. In this way, the electric bell work and produces the sound.
