Solution

The liquid is a substance that has a fixed volume but no fixed shape & size.

  1. They have a tendency to flow, called fluids.
  2. They possess high intermolecular forces compared to gases but lower than solids.
  3. They have some inter-particle spaces between them, higher than solid and lower than gas.
  4. For example — when we add one teaspoon of sugar to a half glass of water and stir, the sugar disappears but the level of water in the glass does not rise.
  5. It means the volume of water has not increased.
  6. It is because the sugar particles are adjusted between the water molecules.
  7. This shows that there are inter-molecular gaps in water.
  8. Liquid has weak intermolecular force leaving some intermolecular space that the in the water.
  9. There are no changes in the level of water after adding sugar.

In this way, there is no change in the level of water if a teaspoon of sugar is added to half a glass of water.
