Materials required for making an electromagnet: large iron nail, thin coated copper wire, a low voltage dry cell, paper clips, switch, electrical tape.

How to make an electromagnet:

• Wind the wire tightly around the nail (at least 25 turns). Keep the turns close together and always wind in the same direction. Try not to overlap the wires.
• Remove the insulation from the ends of the wire and attach one end of the wire to one end of the battery and the other end of the wire to the other end of the battery through a switch.
• Close the circuit by closing the switch.
• Electromagnet is ready to use.
