Question

With which type of equilibrium are the semicircular ducts, utricle and saccule associated?

Open in App
Solution

Semicircular ducts are C-shaped fluid-filled canals. These canals are oriented at right angles to each other. The base of the canals is swollen and is called ampulla. The cristae in these canals are responsible for maintaining the dynamic balance of the body.
On the other hand, utricle and saccule contain projecting ridges called macula that sense the change in the position of the head and thus is responsible to maintain the static balance of the body.
