Question

Work done by electrostatic force of a system of fixed charges on a 10 coulomb charge in bringing it from some reference point to a point a is 100 joules does this imply that the potential at a is 10 volts? Please explain in as simple language as possible. Thank You for the help!

Solution

Charge q moving between 2 points in a field

V = W (Joules)
q (Coulombs)

) Electric Potential - work needed or energy acquired when a positive charge is moved from infinity to a certain point in an electric field.
or in simple words
potential of a point is the energy required to bring a unit charge from infinity to that poit
so if 10 C charge is bringing using 100 J
10 j is required for 1 C charge
so 10 V is the potential
that is V=E/Q
E is the energy used to bring Q amount of charge
