Question

Work done in bringing the positive charge from point A to B where A and B are at dimetrically opposite ends of semi-circle.

A) Proportional to charge on the shell

B) Proportional to the charge brought from. A to B

C) Proportional to radius of shell

D) Independent of all three

Solution

The electric force is a conservative force: work done by a static electric field is independent of the path takenby the charge. There is no change in the voltage (electric potential) around any closed path; when returning to the starting point in a closed path, the net of the external work done is zero.

so When We Calculate the Work We take the Distance Along the diameter From A to B. That is W = QV . In case of A charge From A to B .
V = kQ/r reveals that it is Proportional to the Charge brought from A To B and Charge on Shell and it is not Proportional to (distance)r. It is invesely proportional to distance.
